THE LOT |
This lot is locate South of 2nd St. and West of Hwy 52 in a new development. The owner thought they had purchased a heavily wooded lot. |
BUCKTHORN |
Having read about Buckthorn they asked us to remove it. It was summer when we did the bid and saw only the small sticks. We were told about the access be low the hill. |
ACCESS |
The access was from a street at the far end. A small catch basin at that end for water creates an obsticle, an incline. |

OPPOSITE VIEW |
Looking the opposite way at the incline going into the wooded area to the access. The MultiTrac could make it but required a running start. |
CLIMBING |
To make the grade the MultiTrac needed to follow some ruts already made in the ground and needed to climb the steep part at an angle. |
THROUGH THE WOODS |
Once up the incline it was through the wooded area to the lot. But the wooded area had deep ruts from big trucks that had been in last fall when it had been wet. |

PATH |
View of the entire path through the wooded area to the lot. The ruts can be seen through the snow. |

CUTTING |
Once the undergrowth died in the fall it was obvious that 90% of the hill contained Buckthorn and the lot did not contain very many trees that would remain once we completed the job. |
MAJOR JOB |
The removal became a major job as a lot of what appeared to be trees were large buckthorn. |
LARGE BUCKTHORN |
This "TREE" is a buckthorn. The home owner could not bear to remove it as all the folage had been removed from the hill. Even knowing this would produce millions of seeds next year... Oh, well. |
PILES |
Piles and piles of buckthorn as the job went on well beyound the estimated time. |

PART WAY DONE |
Part way up the hill and several days into the job. |
DEAD WOOD |
The dead wood was also to be removed. Very little was seen when the estimate was made. When the folage was gone it was discovered that the brush from lots next door was pushed into this lot and covered. So there was a large pile of dead wood needed to be removed. Much more than estimated. |
MORE DEAD WOOD |
More Buckthorn, more deadwood, more time and a more difficult access than thought all lend to a badly underestimated job. |
PICKING EM UP |
Using the MultiTrac to pickup the piles of Buckthorn one at a time and carry them to the waiting trailer in the street at the end of the access trail. |
DAY TO DAY |
Several days were needed to pickup all the piles of Buckthorn and dead wood. We did not schedule pickup but rather did it when there was vacant time in our schedule. |
STEEP HILL |
MultiTrac had difficulty climb the steep hill to get all the piles. Some had to be rolled down to a lower level. Some were tied with a rope and pulled down. |
MOVING A PILE |
Moving a pile down the hill. It was a tricky manuever to lift the piles and carry them down the incline as the MultiTrac is not very stable on a side hill. |

HEADING OUT |

COMPLETED |
All the piles are removed and the job is completed. Stumps have been treated with stump killer. The piles at the top were removed by access through the backyard. |
