GOODS FROM THE WOODS!

Looking for a Unique idea for storing firewood?

CHINDA Job

This job was an early job before we were involved in logging of any kind. This was our first large walnut tree that we took down. Not knowing we could sell the log, we lost a lot of money in the value of the logs without knowing it. But this was a learning process as we looked back on it. On this job we used the bucket truck to take down the tree and attempted to use the crane side of the boom to lower the big wood. However, this proved to be too risky and we never used this method again.

THE TREE

A large Walnut located in the backyard along the boundary of the neighbors yard.

BACKYARD

Access to the tree is in the backyard only

BUCKET TRUCK

Using the bucket truck to access most of the tree

START OF JOB

All but the far branches were taken down the first day

END OF DAY

End of the first day

FINISH

Taking the last of the top branches

ONE LAST SECTION

The last section of the tree is directly over the neighbors house

ONLY BIG WOOD

Just the big wood is left

CRANE

This is the first (and last) time we tried using the boom as a crane. To cut a limb below as the boom swings it away. Scary to cut below and the ride in the bucket above.

CUT LOOSE

Cutting the log loose

LET IT FLY

When the log let loose the bucket was pulling too hard and the log popped to the right swinging the bucket and log violently

ANOTHER TRY

This try worked better as we let the log tip down before the strap tightened up, but the ride in the bucket was still too violent

THIRD TRY

This try was as bad as the first so we quiet and have not tried it again

THE STALK

At this point we would take the whole stalk today but this one we "chunked" and lost any value the log would have had.

FIRST CHUNK

TRUNK

Even the trunk was cut too high compared to what we would do today
