GOODS FROM THE WOODS!

Looking for a Unique idea for storing firewood?

SPLITTER

We had the welding shop (Manahan Machine Shop in Chatfield) design and build us a heavy duty log splitter to help us provide firewood to sell during the winter months. The splitter attaches to the MultiTrac and is run by it's hydraulics and engine. Firewood provides an alternate income, though not a large source of  income. Firewood also provides us an outlet for some of the wood that builds up as we continue to take down trees throughout the year. This splitter needed to be large enough to handle the large logs, since it was to be driven by the MultiTrac with a 30 horse power diesel engine there would be plenty of power to drive it... why not take advantage of it.

UPDATE: This splitter has worked super. However, we use the MultiTrac almost every day and we find it hard to plan time to split wood. We had another splitter built to use in the wood lot and are having an engine unit built for this one which can be plugged into the splitter in place of the MultiTrac.

I-beam

The base of the splitter is a 5' I-beam with a quick attach plate to allow the MultiTrac to easily transport it to any location.

CYLINDER

The cylinder is a 5" cylinder with a 30" stroke.

2 HYDRAULIC PUMPS

The MultiTrac has two hydraulic pumps that produce 3,000 psi with a flow of 6.5/13.0 GPM

4 WAY WEDGE

We use a 4-way wedge but could use a 6-way with no problem. As you can see from this photo, a 4-way with a large oak log... and the splitter did not even hesitate.

20 MINUTES

This pile of wood was split in just 20 minutes during the very first testing of the splitter.

KNOTS

This is a crotch that we split THE WRONG WAY... no problem.

WINTER STASH

Split wood stored in the shed on the wood lot to be sold this winter
