GOODS FROM THE WOODS!

Looking for a Unique idea for storing firewood?

CANNONFALLS

In Cannon Falls we had a job taking down ten Walnut trees at two homes next to each other. The job was for a logging company that buys timber and walnut trees. The company has hired us on a regular basis to take down trees around houses, other obstacles or large tree they do not want to chance breaking when it is felled. For this job we hired Cory, our best climber and a professional arborist. Corey's arborist techniques are second to none!  Cory can walk the side of a branch while tied into a neighboring tree as he cuts the limbs of the tree. He is totally at ease with what he does and is the only climber I have felt relaxed with while on the job. He works fast and is by far the safest of all the climbers we have used. He is actually fun to watch.

The job in Cannon Falls consisted of 5 trees at one house and 6 trees at another. Corey took four large trees down the first night in just over four hours. The next day we took down the rest, dropped the stalks and stacked the logs in about 3 hours.

Two Walnuts

The first two walnut trees were part of this job

Two Behind House

The two behind the house were bordered by an embankment to the street, cedar trees and the house.

Another View

Two walnuts behind house. Embankment is beyond the trees.

Neighbor's Trees

Four trees in a grove over a parking area. Five if you count the double tree.

Single Tree

Single walnut in wood line.

Tip Trimming

Dropping Branch

Dropping the cut branch into a safe landing zone.

Working the branch

Using a three point system to extend out on the branch and trim the end

Working further out

One Topped

First tree is topped

Cutting Logs

Once the tree is topped and limbed, the main logs are cut to a height the stalk can be dropped without risk of cracking the stalk.

Working Down

Working down the stalk

Second Tree

Topping the second tree

Tieing in

Tieing in at the top gives you support throughout the tree to swing from limb to limb , balance while walking a limb and to provide safty if needed.

Safe Zone

Looking for a safe zone to drop the branches. There was a terried wall by the house with bird houses and orniments that could not be removed under the tree.

Walking the side of the limb

With a high support line to the front of the tree, Corey is able to work the side of the limb to extend out and trim the end.

Another view

Another shot of Corey working the side of the limb.

Two Down

First two trees were down in a little over two hours. About a third of each needed to be roped.

Fourth Tree

Third tree is a large stalk in front of the one Corey is in.

Last Branch

Corey literly runs up these limbs

Long Way Down

Trimming the tips. Corey's landing zone is between the house and a cedar. He never even touched the house with a branch.

Clean-up

Pulling some hangers out of the surronding trees. Look at the tie-in rope. Corey seems to have traveled a ways from the tree he was working on.

More Cleanup

Again working the tree tops to clean up any hangers. Total time for the first four trees was just over four hours.

Behind the shed

Day two started with the medium walnut behind the shed. It took Corey 12 minutes to put this one on the ground. There was a fence directly under it as well as the corner of the shed. We did not rope anything.

Topped

Corey had the top off before I had my equipment ready. By the time I located the camera and came back the entire top was gone.

Top Logs

Doing the log on the top.

Neighbor's Trees

Starting at the neighbors grove of three trees

Walking the branch

Corey's ability to traverse the tree, walk the branches, swing to limbs, repelling and basic strengh and skill put him at the top of his game. He can quickly and safely take down a tree sometimes faster than using a bucket truck.

3 of 4 Completed

Working on the last tree in the grove.
