GOODS FROM THE WOODS!

Looking for a Unique idea for storing firewood?

Richard Best

Richard Best had a large maple on a hill beside his house with limited access. There was no way to use a bucket truck on this job as the tree was on a steep slope so we needed to climb it. Dan and Aaron both  worked the tree on the take down. This was a large yard that had a steep downhill slope. We had done work on two other jobs below these trees. The trees were part of the original wooded area in the development an very large and old. Many should not have been left as they were too large for the location they were in. This was a challenge for the MultiTrac to retrieve the brush and wood that rolled down the slope. Problem was keeping it from damaging the fences on neighboring yards.

DAN DAVIS

Dan helped us again on this tree.

LARGE MAPLE

This was a large and tall Maple tree on a steep side hill.

WORKING THE TOP

Dropping the top branches on the down hill side.

HIDING

Top of the downhill side removed.

UNIQUE CLIMBER

Dan is unique when it comes to climbers. Notice the 4' landyard on a 20" chainsaw and a looking close that is a seatbelt for a flip line!

"CHUNKING" IT

When taking down large wood from a height it is taken in chunks to reduce damage to the lawn below.

DOWN IT GOES

Action shot of a chunk in flight.

UNDERCUT

Undercut is made to keep the "chunk" from splitting the branch as it falls off. If the branch splits it can tear the bark or worse the wood and pull the climbers flip line into the branch and injure them.

ANOTHER GOOD CUT

Another chunk cut and gone. Notice the red seat belt hanging around the tree on the right side.

SETTING UP

Coming down to setup for another cut.

BIG WOOD

Lower perch and smaller wood so bigger cuts are made.

AARON

Aaron also worked in the tree with Dan. Aaron finished the tree.

BIG CUT

One of the few times Aaron actually asked to take a picture. Normally he is ... let's say, camera shy.

TIMBER

Taking the end of the branch will fall flat which keeps it from rolling downhill and provides a "net" to catch the "chunks" that are cut next.

HANG ON

When a large part of the branch is removed the remaining branch shakes accordingly. Sometimes it can be a wild ride.

ALMOST DONE

Cut back of the main branches back to the main crotch.

HIGH PERCH

One last finger to remove from the tree.
